Homemade Hair Treatment during Lockdown!

Homemade Hair Treatment during Lockdown!

While in lockdown we should all be taking time to give our hair some love. But what if you didn’t stock up on your salon treatments before lockdown?! We have had heaps of enquiries about the best treatment to buy from the supermarket to help maintain your hair at home.

While these are trying times and needs must, this is still something I would not recommend. You only need to look at the ingredients list on the back tfind a bunch of numbered preservatives and long worded chemicals. Even the healthy-looking ones can be full of bad stuff.

So, I decided to do a little research for our wonderful clients and came up with a super easy home recipe full of loads of good stuff for your hair 😊

Let’s talk ingredients:

 Aloe vera gel:

Super heathy for your hair. It contains something called proteolytic enzymes which dissolve dead skin cells on the scalp. It also acts as a great conditioner, promotes hair growth, prevents itching, and reduces dandruff leaving your hair feeling smooth and shiny.

You can buy aloe vera gel in the health supplement section at the supermarket or pharmacyIyou have a plant, you can harvest your own. If you are going to harvest your own, please follow this link for instructions on the right way to do it. You need to make sure you drain all the aloin, a yellowish-orange sap from it firsthttps://helloglow.co/how-to-harvest-aloe-vera/

Egg yolk:

Densely packed with nutrients! Biotin, folate, vitamin A, vitamin D and protein are naturally contained in egg yolk, The same nutrients needed for healthy, glossy hair. Applying egg yolk topically to your scalp can infuse the root of your hair with vitamins. This means that the new hair will grow out stronger and be less prone to breakage and shedding.

  Almond oil:

This littlnut has a huge number of amazing things, including high levels of protein, omega-9 fatty acids, and vitamin E.  Everything your hair needs to improve shine and strength. Almond oil is also an emollient, meaning it can fill the gaps in your hair at a cellular level. This makes your hair feel smoother and it gives a softer texture over time.

Almond oil can also be used as a treatment for flaky scalp (seborrheic dermatitis) and scalp psoriasis. Rubbing a small amount directly on your scalp increases blood flow and introduces powerful antioxidants.

You can buy almond oil in the health supplement section of your supermarket or pharmacy.

 Coconut Oil:

Just an all-round good oil! Istimulates hair growth, getting deep into its follicles, and moisturizes dry hair adding shine and softness. Coconut oil also prevents hair breakage and split ends by sealing the hair and preventing protein loss.

The recipe:

1 tbsp aloe vera gel

1x egg yolk

1 tbsp melted coconut oil

10 drops almond oil

Wisk all ingredients together in a bowl and apply roots to tips on shampooed, towel dried hair and comb through with a wide tooth comb. Leave for 30 – 45 min. Rinse with COOL WATER. There’s raw egg in there that you don’t want to cook!

Note on Application: this potion is protein packed so can be hard to comb through. This is normal

Style as usual.  Use weekly

But does it work? I hear you say. Well I wouldn’t be recommending it if I didn’t try it myself! So here is a little video for you. I decided to harvest my own aloe gel so the lumps you can see is the gel because I didn’t crush it properly 😊

I also did not use any styling product when drying my hair – I wanted to see what my hair looked like on its own.

My hair definitely feels soft, less fluffy and super shiny! Try it for yourself and give me your feedback!
